The NFL somehow always finds its way into the news. And with the NFL season now fast approaching, the NFL is finding its way into the news again. And this time regarding the amount of games played. The NFL reportedly is having high level discussions about expanding their schedule from 17 games to 18 games for the regular season in the near future.

This seemed like a given. Once the NFL expanded to 17 games a few years back, it basically made little sense for the NFL to continue in a format that featured teams playing 8 home games and 9 away games or vice versa. An 18 game schedule would fit perfectly and most likely correspond with the Super Bowl being played on the Sunday before President's Day, which would give most Americans a day off after the big game. Sure, there will be player safety concerns, but that could be helped by an additional bye week. I believe this will be the last of the NFL expanding their schedule, and we should be seeing an 18 game schedule for the long term.
